Volvo Trucks has unveiled a new generation of electric trucks, setting a new benchmark for heavy-duty electric transport with enhanced performance, greater flexibility and ranges of up to 700 kilometresAt the centre of the launch is the Volvo FH Aero Electric with extended range, a new long-distance electric truck capable of travelling up to 700 kilometres on a single charge.

The new FH Aero Electric with extended range has been specifically developed for long-distance transport. Its increased range is achieved through a new driveline architecture featuring an e‑axle, which integrates electric motors and a gearbox into the rear axle. This design frees up space on the chassis for additional batteries, significantly boosting onboard energy capacity.

The truck is compatible with the new Megawatt Charging System (MCS), allowing batteries to be charged from 20% to 80% in approximately 50 minutes, making charging possible within mandated driver rest periods under EU regulations. This supports high productivity while maintaining zero tailpipe emissions.

The Next Generation of FH, FM and FMX Electric Models

In parallel, Volvo also revealed the next generation of its FH, FM and FMX Electric models, offering improved productivity, driving comfort and operational flexibility, with ranges of up to 470 kilometres. The new electric trucks can be charged from 20% to 80% in around 65 minutes using standard high-power charging.

These updated versions feature an all-new electric driveline designed to deliver maximum flexibility across a wide range of transport applications, including construction, distribution, municipal services and heavy-duty operations. The new driveline allows auxiliary equipment such as concrete mixers, hook lifts or refuse units to be powered directly without additional motors, thanks to an integrated power take-off system that can be used while driving.

All newly launched electric trucks are equipped with electric-optimized gearboxes paired with dual motor configurations. The updated transmissions provide seamless gear shifts, while also reducing noise and vibration, contributing to a more comfortable driving experience. The FH Aero Electric features a six-speed gearbox, while the FH, FM and FMX Electric models use an eight-speed configuration tailored for a wide range of duty cycles.

Volvo Trucks confirmed that the new electric models will be rolled out progressively across global markets starting in 2026. The company stressed that the actual range may vary depending on external conditions such as weather, wind resistance, vehicle weight and driving style.

These new vehicles form part of Volvo Trucks’ broader strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. The company continues to pursue a three-path approach to fossil-free transport, combining battery-electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel-cell solutions and internal combustion engines powered by renewable fuels such as green hydrogen, biogas, biodiesel and HVO.
