As the growth rate of global e‑commerce accelerates, the importance of urban logistics is higher than ever. Consumers’ shift from “same‑day delivery” to expectations of “delivery within minutes” is opening the door to a new era in the logistics industry.

At the same time, the entire structure of the supply chain is being redesigned, bringing with it numerous innovations—from micro‑warehousing models to sustainable distribution solutions.

FedEx Takes a Strategic Step Toward Ultra‑Fast Delivery

FedEx announced the launch of its SameDay Local service, a move positioned as a response to Amazon’s accelerating delivery strategies. This new model introduces significant capacity expansion in urban delivery by offering consumers options such as two‑hour delivery windows or end‑of‑day delivery. The system, created in collaboration with OneRail, can automatically assign orders to more than 1,000 local delivery providers through an intelligent orchestration platform. As a result, orders are routed to the most suitable vehicle and driver and delivered to customers in a short time with real‑time tracking.

According to The Wall Street Journal, FedEx’s move is seen as a direct consequence of the intensified competition following Amazon’s push into ultra‑fast delivery. The company positions this service as a strategic growth area in response to rising expectations in last‑mile delivery speed.

Amazon’s 30‑Minute Delivery Era

Amazon, meanwhile, is pushing the standard even higher with Amazon Now. The model, active in select areas of London, enables thousands of products to reach customers in roughly 30 minutes. The service covers a broad range of items across 35 categories; fresh food, personal care and household essentials can all be delivered at high speed. This ultra‑fast model is powered by micro‑fulfillment centers positioned physically close to consumers.

Amazon’s approach delivers radical efficiency in densely populated urban areas by storing products closer to customers, managing restocking operations with high accuracy, and accelerating in‑warehouse processes through automation. In addition, discounted delivery fees for Prime members help broaden the reach of this service.

A New Reality for the Logistics Industry

This transformation indicates that the logistics ecosystem in Türkiye and the surrounding region must be prepared for a similar evolution in the coming years. The new reality shaped by ultra‑fast delivery requires:

  • Redefining urban warehouse structures,
  • Demand‑driven dynamic capacity utilization,
  • Centralization of technology investments,
  • The development of last‑mile operations with a focus on agility and sustainability.

The ultra‑fast delivery trend, shaped largely by the initiatives of FedEx and Amazon, signals how the logistics sector will be restructured on a global scale.
