The domestically developed diesel shunting locomotive DE 10000, produced by Türkiye Rail System Vehicles Industry Inc. (TÜRASAŞ), is planned to be exported to Tanzania. The statement was made by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.

Minister Uraloğlu stated that Türkiye continues its efforts to increase domestic and national capacity in railway vehicle production, emphasizing that the vehicles developed within this scope are not only used in the domestic market but are also being introduced to international markets. Following negotiations, it was announced that the DE 10000 locomotive, manufactured in Eskişehir, will be exported to Tanzania, located in East Africa.

TÜRASAŞ Production Expands to International Markets

The locomotive developed by TÜRASAŞ, one of the leading rail system manufacturers in Türkiye and the region, will be integrated into Tanzania’s railway fleet. The project represents an example of domestically produced railway vehicles finding applications in different regions across the globe.

Domestic Engine Technology Integrated

The locomotive to be exported will be equipped with a domestically developed diesel engine exceeding 1000 horsepower, produced through collaboration between TÜRASAŞ and TÜBİTAK. The system, named “Özgün Engine,” is fully owned by Türkiye in terms of intellectual property rights.

The fact that this engine is being used in a domestic locomotive platform for the first time and directly exported sets an example of how locally developed technologies in the railway sector are being introduced to international markets.

Logistics Perspective

The export of railway vehicles involves not only manufacturing processes but also transportation and logistics operations. Such projects:

  • Increase the role of railway equipment in international supply chains
  • Support Türkiye’s access to new markets
  • Contribute to the expansion of railway transportation on a global scale

Overall Assessment

The export of the DE 10000 locomotive to Tanzania stands out as a concrete example of railway vehicles developed in Türkiye being utilized in international markets. The integration of domestically developed engine technology into the project also enables the transfer of production and engineering capabilities in railway systems to different regions.
