Faster Access from Southeast Türkiye to İskenderun Port

Türkiye is implementing another strategic project to strengthen its logistics infrastructure. Within the scope of the ongoing Dörtyol–Hassa Railway and Highway Project in Hatay, massive tunnels passing beneath the Amanos Mountains aim to connect Southeast Türkiye to İskenderun Port through the shortest possible route.
With the completion of the project, travel time to the Amik Plain will decrease from 1 hour to just 5 minutes, significantly transforming the region’s logistics accessibility.
A World First: Triple Tube Tunnel Project
As part of the project, the tunnels to be constructed beneath the Amanos Mountains will include:
- 2 highway tunnels
- 1 railway tunnel
Each tunnel will be approximately 20 kilometers long, bringing the total length to around 60 kilometers.
This structure stands out as the world’s first functional triple-tube tunnel project.
Logistics Corridors Becoming Shorter
The project will bring significant distance reductions on key regional routes:
- Kilis – Osmaniye – İskenderun: 38.3 km shorter
- Kırıkhan – İskenderun – Dörtyol: 15.27 km shorter
- Nurdağı – Osmaniye – Dörtyol: 20.6 km shorter
- Dörtyol – Hassa: 53.4 km shorter
- Payas – Fevzipaşa railway: approximately 30 km shorter
These reductions will lower transit times and help decrease logistics costs.
Industry and Agriculture Will Reach Ports Faster
The Amanos Tunnel Project is not just a transportation investment but also a strategic initiative supporting production and export infrastructure.
With the project:
- industrial output from Southeast Türkiye
- agricultural products from the Amik Plain
will be transported to İskenderun Port more quickly.
This is expected to increase Türkiye’s export capacity and strengthen regional competitiveness.
Integration of Sea, Rail, and Road Transport
Supported by 55 km of railway and 25 km of highway, the project will integrate multiple transport modes across the region.
This integration will:
- expand port hinterlands
- strengthen multimodal transportation
- accelerate logistics flows
Improved Disaster Resilience and Logistics Security
The project also stands out as a strategic infrastructure investment beyond its commercial impact.
With earthquake-resistant road and railway systems:
- uninterrupted transportation can be maintained during disasters
- regional logistics resilience will be enhanced
€1.55 Billion Financing Secured
The financing for the project has been completed:
- Total of €1.55 billion funding
- Loan agreements led by Societe Generale
- Mobilization works have begun on-site
İskenderun Port’s Strategic Role Strengthens
With the implementation of the Amanos Tunnels:
- İskenderun Port’s role in the Eastern Mediterranean will increase
- integration with global trade corridors will strengthen
- the port’s hinterland will expand
The Amanos Tunnel Project is seen as the beginning of a new era in Türkiye’s logistics infrastructure.
With this investment:
- transit times will decrease significantly
- production centers will connect to ports more efficiently
- Türkiye’s position in global trade will strengthen
In the new era, competitiveness in logistics will be determined not only by capacity, but by speed, integration, and infrastructure strength.
