Air China Cargo Partners with IGA Istanbul Airport for Chengdu–Istanbul Flights

IGA Istanbul Airport has signed a new partnership with China‑based air cargo carrier Air China Cargo. Within the scope of this cooperation, Air China Cargo has launched scheduled cargo flights on the Chengdu (CTU) – Istanbul (IST) route.
The inaugural flight was operated on 22 April 2026 using an Airbus A330‑200F freighter from the Air China Cargo fleet. As part of the agreement, the aircraft operating the first flight was welcomed on the apron by IGA officials, accompanied by a symbolic welcoming ceremony organized together with the operations team.
Istanbul Airport’s Contribution to the Global Cargo Network Continues to Grow
According to a statement by IGA, the new Chengdu‑origin route will operate with four weekly frequencies, with flights scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Through this addition, Istanbul Airport aims to further strengthen its position as a key transfer and destination hub for air cargo transportation between the Asia‑Pacific region and Europe.
It was also emphasized that the new route represents not only an operational expansion but also a strategic step supporting trade and logistics cooperation between Türkiye and China. The regular cargo services are expected to contribute to supply chain continuity between the two countries.
It was noted that teams from Turkish Cargo, Çelebi Ground Handling Türkiye, and Gözen Air Services also took part in the inaugural flight operation. This multi‑stakeholder operational model highlights Istanbul Airport’s integrated service infrastructure and operational capacity in international cargo operations. Air China Cargo’s Istanbul operations are planned to continue in a sustainable and uninterrupted manner in line with the scheduled frequencies.
With the launch of the Chengdu–Istanbul route, Istanbul Airport’s role in the global air cargo network is expected to be further strengthened. In particular, Istanbul’s emergence as an alternative gateway for high‑volume, time‑sensitive cargo originating from Asia is considered a noteworthy development in terms of regional logistics dynamics.
