15 Day Transit Visa for Truck Drivers

Saudi Arabia has implemented a 15-day transit visa scheme for Turkish TIR drivers. Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat stated that this temporary yet critical solution was achieved following intensive diplomatic negotiations with Saudi Arabia, after disruptions in maritime transport with Gulf countries caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Reaching the Gulf Within 3–4 Days by Road
Thanks to the new transit visa arrangement, TIR trucks departing from Turkey can now reach Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries within 3 to 4 days via road transport. This development positions road transportation as a strategic alternative, particularly in the face of delays and rising freight costs in maritime shipping.
Rapid Logistics Solution After the Strait of Hormuz Crisis
Minister Bolat emphasized that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has put significant pressure on energy, fertilizer, and transportation costs. He underlined that activating road transport during this period has provided notable relief for exports and supply chains. With the introduction of the transit visa, the aim is to restore the functionality of the Gulf trade corridor.
A Critical Step for Exports and Supply Chains
The 15-day transit visa facilitation is not only important for exporters but also plays a key role in imports, fertilizer supply, and regional logistics flows. Strengthening the road transport option in trade with the Middle East and Gulf countries is seen as a move that enhances Turkey’s regional logistics flexibility.
A Temporary but Strategic Gain for the Logistics Sector
Industry representatives note that although the measure is temporary, it offers significant time and cost advantages amid current global and regional uncertainties. Whether the scheme will be extended or transformed into a permanent arrangement is expected to be a decisive factor for the future of Turkey–Gulf trade volumes.
